About Jonathan Spector

The most important work rarely fails because of strategy. It fails because the people who need to move it forward are not moving together.

I have helped leaders get aligned and move forward together through the most complex of challenges. Opioid crisis. Gun violence. Regional resilience. Global impacts of extreme heat. Business and government leaders navigating pivotal moments.

In every one of those situations, the people in the room were not adversaries by design. They were accidental adversaries - each shaped by the gravity of their own organization, their own priorities, and their own version of the strategy, and what success looked like. What appeared to be conflict was usually people who hadn't yet found common goals.

I've learned that the organizations that thrive aren't the most strategic, they're the most aligned. When impact and success depend on people working together to cause something greater than they could achieve independently, that's where I work.

My Approach

Most alignment problems are not communication problems. They are structural problems. The people in the room are each operating from inside their own organization, their own priorities, their own definition of the problem. Asking them to collaborate without first surfacing what they genuinely care about is asking them to build on sand.

My approach starts with listening. Individual conversations before any group session. Understanding each person's version of the challenge before I bring them into a room together. What I learn in those conversations shapes everything that follows.

The goal is never agreement for its own sake. It is real commitment to coordinated action, with the accountability structures that make the commitment hold over time and deliver committed-to outcomes and impacts.

My Journey

My greatest joy comes when leaders with conflicting agendas align around a shared vision. Those moments when accidental adversaries become strategic partners, turning friction into momentum. That's transformative work.

My career has been built at the intersection of strategy and implementation, inside organizations and alongside them. I have led businesses, worked inside top-tier and boutique consulting firms, and spent more than three decades developing the craft of facilitation, coalition design, and executive alignment across public sector and private industry.

That includes formal executive education at Harvard Business School and extensive training in leadership, organizational design, and change management. But the most important learning has come from the work itself - from the rooms where something important was stalling and needed to move.

I work with government agencies, civic coalitions, emergency management organizations, councils of governments, and private sector leadership teams wherever the challenge requires people who don't yet agree to start moving together. I also help senior executives navigate AI adoption through Leading Through AI, my framework for leaders who need to understand what AI means for how their organizations work - not as a technology conversation, but as a leadership one.

Leaders trust Jonathan because he consistently delivers results, operates with integrity, and genuinely cares - not just about outcomes, but about the people involved
